The Peterhof Palace Administration commissioned the text of the guide to be written by the inspector of the Peterhof Men's Gymnasium of Emperor Alexander II, teacher of Russian history, Mikhail Mikhailovich Izmailov, whose whole life was connected with Peterhof. The historical sketch and description of Peterhof is illustrated by the works of amateur photographer Karl Fedorovich Rosenberg. A resident of Peterhof, Karl Fedorovich photographed not only views of palaces and parks, but also everyday scenes, as well as the streets and houses of his native city.
